Professional Experience
UX/UI Designer - Vainu
March 2020Â -
Designer's job at Vainu has given a great opportunity work extensively on UX research and UI design processes. The work has included all the steps from the background research to ideating, wireframing, creating prototypes and testing them. I've also designed high-fidelity designs for the product and taken part to improve our design system with other designers. Besides the design work I was the Scrum Master for a while for our team, and I have also been in charge of running the retrospective sessions. These tasks have taught me a lot about product development and cross-functional teamwork.
Study advisor - Omnia Adult High School
October 2017 -
October 2019
I worked as a study advisor in an adult high school. My job consisted of doing both individual and group counselling. I helped students make a plan for their studies depending on their life situation, background, and needs, as well as help and motivate them to finish their studies and achieve their goals. The students in the school were really heterogenic, with fairly different backgrounds and a wide age-range (from 16 to around 70), which made the work quite challenging and interesting.
Study advisor - Stadin ammattiopisto vocational college
October 2015 - October 2017
I worked as a substitute study advisor at the Mechanical & Welding area of the vocational school. After that, I got another role in a project in which our goals was to reduce the number of school dropouts between middle school and secondary school. We aimed to create a new way to counsel students by identifying students in high-risk on dropping out and going directly to them in their schools to help and guide them. The project was highly successful with both students and teachers presenting high satisfaction, and the pattern we followed being implemented partially in the capital area.
Education
October 2019Â - December 2019
UX/UI design Bootcamp, Lisbon
UX/UI design bootcamp is a very intensive learning experience which gives the main skills and knowledge you need to start your new career as a UX/UI designer. I made a small design project every week. All the projects followed the steps of the design thinking and included research, ideation, testing, iterating and prototyping. During the UI lessons and projects I learned to use Figma, Sketch and Adobe XD.
2012-2015
Master's of Education
I did my Master's degree in Education and I specialised in student counselling. During the studies I learned how the developmental background affects to the people's decision making, personal development and education. Also, I practice different techniques to conduct counselling sessions such as interviewing skills, phrasing of questions and useful tools for different situations.
2009-2012
Bachelor's of Education
I did my Bachelor's degree in education and I specialised in student counselling and psychology. During the studies I learned a lot about developmental psychology and different ways of learning. I did several practises in schools which improved my skills to have lessons, run small counselling groups and have individual counselling sessions. I also made the pedagogical studies in psychology which gave me the licence to work as a teacher of psychology as well.

Career change
From Education world to UX/UI designer
After working for 5 years as a study and career advisor, I found UXUI design where I could combine human sciences with visual aspects.

Achieved experience as a study counselor has given a lot to the design work: Empathising, problem-solving, interviewing skills, and pedagogical skills on what can help users to learn to use the product.

As a UX/UI designer, I believe in research data and successful teamwork. By listening to the voice of the users, we can create user-centered solutions and something meaningful for the future. In this, well working team is required because the best ideas are never built alone.
